Everyman: Belonging

Where Do I Belong?
The Everyman: Belonging
The Everyman is a representation of the average reader or audience member. The everyman is hardworking, honest, loyal, and works to achieve a comfortable and modest life. They crave belonging and finding where they are meant to be. They want to feel welcomed, loved, appreciated, and connected to those around them. For my project I capitalized on the sense of emotional connection and compatibility. The piece I made represents a device that can seek and test emotional compatability when interacting with other beings. The eye on the torso is the "reader" and the heart is the "compatibility gauge". Because they seek belonging, I made my piece somewhat sensual and alluring in order to attract those who are also seeking connection and belonging. I sort of branched off from the typical belonging archetype and made it sort of "belonging" in a more romantic way; I represented this with the use of the heart on the front and the various shades of pink.
I used an old bra of mine to help form the shape of the breastplate and repurposed the hooks to create a closure in the back.
